How many times have you tried a new way of eating and training, only to fall off the wagon and make excuses as to why it didn’t work? It’s easy to quit a healthy eating and training programme for these ‘reasons’:

• I’m not prepared to cut out certain foods

• I couldn’t live without bread

• The times didn’t suit

• The food is too expensive

• It takes too long to prepare food

• With kids I’m too busy

• I don’t have time

These are all excuses that we tell ourselves, when we are looking to justify our decision to quit our latest program.

I think when you are honest with yourself, you know it’s not the program that is to blame most of the time…

Deep down, you know it’s because you are afraid to admit you failed and quit. We as humans hate to admit when we are wrong, or can’t do something,

It’s human nature.

We also naturally choose the easier road if there are two options. This is why the harder road, is the road less travelled.

Also human nature.

Now you may think I’m biased as I’m in the industry a long time, in fact probably one of the longest in the industry.

I will certainly take responsibility when there is a breakdown in communication or an issue our end that contributed to a client not getting results, but unfortunately there has to be responsibility on the clients end too. That’s why we ask people to apply for our programmes and screen them to make sure we can help them before we accept them onto our programmes. They have to want to change, and be open to new ideas and changing habits and long term beliefs, if not, it ain’t gonna work and they end up quitting before they’ve given it a chance.

After all, our reputation is at stake.

Just to be clear, in my opinion, there are many decent fitness places out there, and a truck load opening up every day. Unfortunately, there is also plenty not so decent (i.e. crap). It’s important to note that there is little difference between most.

You know what the biggest difference is that’ll yield the best results…?

It’s not necessarily the type of diet, the type of training, the programming, how nice your coach is…although these things help.

It’s very simply CONSISTENCY…

Yes, sorry to disappoint you but that’s the reality, no fancy this or that, but plain old sticking with something that suits you and fits into your lifestyle long term.

Of course there needs to be some sacrifices to fit anything into your life, some hardship, hard work, but that’s how all relationships (worth having) with things/people work right?

I don’t mean living like a monk/nun and not enjoying yourself, I mean, jumping back on the horse when you fall off (which is inevitable by the way). Have a day or two, where you go off plan, but get back at it straight away, rather than throwing the towel in and letting all hell break loose!

The likelihood is, if you stick at most programs long term they will yield some sort of results, but where peoples mind-set’s are these days, they want results yesterday and will quit the program before giving it a chance.

The hard job is making a program sustainable, yet yield the best results, in the fastest possible time.

Unfortunately that’s what most people don’t understand. It’s hard to get both birds boxed off with one stone.

Fortunately we at CPT have cracked it, but more on that later on

When you look at the bigger picture, when beginning your journey to health and fitness, there are a number of things to consider.

1. Is this going to help me lose weight? (the wrong question, but most common)
2. Is this going to get me healthier? (the right question, but less common)
3. Do these guys/girls running the show know what they’re doing?
4. Is this safe and am I likely to get injured?
5. Will it suit my level of ability/fitness levels?
6. Can I afford it (in reality, that means are you willing to afford it?)
7. Will I get sustainable results?
8. Will I have fun and enjoy it?
9. Will I fit in?
10. What’s my gut feeling?

All these considerations should be at the top of your list at your consultant for you to be able to commit and be consistent.

If they don’t offer a consultation, why don’t they?

If I were going to commit to a health and fitness regime, I’d want to be able to ask all the questions I wanted answered, see the place I was going to be training in, meet the person I was handing over my money to etc.

Building a level of trust and relationship that is going to work is crucial, because if you don’t have that between client and coach, this may cause problems down the line.

Going back to why I feel we are the best, it’s for a couple of reasons.

1. Relating to our clients – You are who we specialise in helping.
