Getting The Balance Right
What surprises me most is “Man”, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he doesn’t enjoy the present. The result being he doesn’t live in the present or the future; He lives as if he’s never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.” – Dalai Lama
Does that ever seem familiar to you?
Is there a means to an end?
Is it slog away all week, wishing and waiting for the weekend for you?
You see life as a chore, chasing the next promotion, sitting in traffic for a couple of hours a day or ferrying kids from place to place, thinking, is this what it’s all about?
I must say, being self-employed, I don’t have those same worries as I travel at different times to the majority, I can get a promotion by working harder but at the expense of family time and my health. I suppose I do have the option at least.
I have a system I have just started to use to find that balance of life and work and then some…
It’s helped me massively so far having only used it for a week or so.
As it’s not about life work balance, for me it’s more about Life, Personal Development, Health and Family balance.
Not in that order.
I use my white board in my office on a Sunday evening to set my goals for the week so I can tick off at least three things that I want to have achieved by the end of the week in each category.

The White Board
Not rocket science but something helps me immediately be more mindful of what I am spending my time doing!
It shouldn’t be a rat race, it should be something you can see and do with enthusiasm and energy. After all you spend on average 30% of your life working. That’s a long time to be miserable and will vastly affect the other three i.e. health, personal development and family.
- Family – More quality time with kids and a date night (You know you could do more)
- Health – Gym, Sports etc
- Personal Development – Book you are interested in
- Business – Work or an idea you would like to explore
Work on each category for a week or so and watch the other three blossom and your mind begin to be open to new opportunities ready for exploration and for you to embrace.
Giving you the mindset shift to take that jump from being in a rat race, into being in a race that you actually are passionate about and want to win!
Give it a try
