Who’s feeling Christmassy?
I must admit I kinda am.
However, I do find it drags out since it starts mid November these days.
One thing I swear by and have done for the last 6 years, is get away for some winter sun just before Christmas. This year It’s Lanzarote.
Feeling the sun on your back with Vitamin d, and just a break from the dark wet Irish winters, not to mention a recharge of the batteries through relaxation, change of scenery and coming back with a fresh appreciation for the festive season and looking forward to Christmas time once again.
I am taking the family, my Mum and the in laws away to test drive the Villa we are using for the Complete Luxury Bootcamp and Fatloss Retreat in March.
I can’t wait I must admit, heated pool, 6 bedroom villa, tennis court and situated on a beautiful little fishing village south of Puerto Calero, Lanzarote.
Meanwhile, I have noticed a drop off in Bootcamps as it’s December… (cough, cough )
I wrote in a previous blog about how it’s a very Irish thing to ‘Down Tools’ in December when it comes to exercising as ‘There’s sooo much to be done”.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the whole Christmas period but not at the expense of my fatloss goals.
Why sabotage your goals from the start of the month and make it 1000% harder come January, when you spend most of the month procrastinating on when to start and what you should do?
I know myself, I have potential to get bloated, inflamed and retain water not to mention increase body fat very easily. In the past, I have put on over 6kg or a stone in a day or two. I know that’s insane but true as that’s just the hand I’ve been dealt.
It’s never an excuse for me now, although It was in the past. I know my body, what it can tolerate and what it can’t. Once you know that, it’s pretty easy to control and beat it.
Having said that, I didn’t know for a long time and I thought I could out train eating badly by “Burning it off tomorrow”. Sound familiar
This is something I hear all the time and I have to clarify.
You cannot out train inflammation and bloating. To explain what I mean by that, let me elaborate.
So, you take in more calories than you burn, you will put on weight. Right?
So you burn more calories than you take in, you lose weight. Right?
No, not always. If you have an intolerance or a reaction to a food that causes inflammation, no amount of training will bring that down.
What will bring it down? Taking that food causing the reaction out.
There is no proven test for this (most intolerance testing is complete rubbish). You have to use an exclusion method ie trial and error.
Take note of how you feel after each meal. If you feel lethargic, bloated, brain fuzzy etc you are more than likely having a small reaction to what you have just consumed so try taking it out for a week and see how you feel.
This is vital when trying to get healthy.
I certainly have to work extremely hard for my body, that’s why I can relate to my members as I know what they are going through when trying to change mindset and eating habits!

I just about have all my Christmas shopping done, I am a little addicted to shopping I must admit. Unusual for a male I know. It’s a therapeutic thing for me much like working out!
