1) No. 1 in the top 50 things I’ve learned is that people think fitness, health and fat loss is a short-term thing, they need to do it for a while and stop. It’s a journey not a destination.
2) There are a lot of gyms opening every day with little or no knowledge of the fitness industry
3) Irish people can be extremely begrudging of other’s successes, especially when it comes to weight loss or finances
4) The people closest to them can be the ones to sabotage their results
5) I hear “I want to get fit and tone up” in 98% of my consultations when asked about what they need help with (Not the real reasons. That takes a bit more digging :-0)
6) Posting your food for accountability, has a direct correlation with the results achieved on our programs
7) I hear “My diet is pretty healthy” in 85% of my consultations, 80% of those are not eating healthily
8) Confusion and common misconceptions, are more rampant than ever amongst the general public when it comes to training and nutrition
9) Soya is not as healthy as people are led to believe, please don’t consume it
10) The quality of calories consumed, is just as important as the quantity of calories consumed
11) Community and gym culture is a powerful thing
12) Water is still a vastly underestimated factor in fat loss, fitness and reaching optimal health
13) Sunlight plays a big part in boosting our energy and general health, it definitely helps me when I’m suffering from SAD syndrome
14) We all get down days but putting a healthy exercise and nutrition plan in place will make a massive difference when those days come.
15) The work on your health you put in now, will stand to you in the future…no doubt
16) Gyms don’t work for most people
17) Destroying your body isn’t a quick and easy thing to do
18) The workouts you do today, determine who you will be in 10 years.
19) Every day older is a day harder in the fitness world.
20) Doing what you enjoy, is the best decision you can make when trying to get fit
21) Doing the same thing that got you results 10 years ago may well not work now
22) Doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results is insane
23) Thinking you can go it alone when embarking on a health and fitness journey when you hire professionals in every other aspect of your life is also kinda bizarre i.e. Doctor, Lawyer, Physio, Electrician
24) If you don’t laugh at least once before, during or after your exercise class, ditch it. It should be fun
25) Sticking to the program you committed to, when the mood you committed to it in has left you, will determine your success.
26) Running a fitness business is a roller coaster
27) I still have days I panic and worry about tomorrow
28) Worrying doesn’t solve anything
29) People who won’t fill out an application form for our programs more than likely won’t be a good fit for CPT or be prepared to make the necessary changes to succeed at reaching their goals
30) Getting anxious doesn’t solve anything
31) Long term success is down to consistency of following a health and fitness plan
32) There’s no magic work out or diet, just more and less effective ones.
33) Getting results for people and seeing how it positively it effects their lives, gives me a buzz more than ever.
34) People expect me to be in amazing shape, even though I put my clients and family first. I’m not always in amazing shape
35) I put on weight like everyone else
36) I am naturally an out of shape person
37) I have to work harder than most to get in and stay in shape
38) I eat pizza and go to McDonalds
39) I get judged when I eat bad food
40) Diet is more important than exercise when losing body fat
41) Females have to Lift resistance, to get their bodies back after having babies
42) Most people hate the word ‘Bootcamp’
43) You don’t need to spend more than 45minutes training, 4 times a week to get in shape.
44) You should still aim to move more every day
45) Your body is not designed to sit for long periods
46) Get a fitness watch if it will help you reach 10k steps each day minimum, if it doesn’t, don’t
47) People who try to haggle for a program and look for free stuff, will often be the most demanding clients
48) Calories on the back of packets, are quite often wildly inaccurate
49) Buying home fitness equipment, is a great way to lose money on donedeal, and great for hanging clothes on.
50) After 18 years in the industry, if I was to advise you to buy one piece of fitness equipment, it would be Kettlebells
